Leeds Alliance of Counselling Agencies
"Developing and Delivering Counselling and Therapy in the Voluntary Sector"
Please contact us if you would like to join the Alliance of Counselling Agencies.
The Alliance of Counselling Agencies (ACA) was set up in Leeds in the early 1990s as an informal support and development group for voluntary sector counselling agencies.
The ACA has now established itself as a significant support and development network for 15 voluntary sector counselling provider agencies. The ACA is coordinated by a Volition team member, who provides administrative and development time.
The ACA has produced a leaflet listing all voluntary sector counselling and psychotherapy organisations in Leeds. The leaflet is in a simple format for easy photocopying and distribution. Download the ACA leaflet (PDF, 81KB).
The ACA held a conference in January 2007, "Re-visioning voluntary sector counselling in Leeds." The Conference Report (PDF, 174KB) is available to download.
Members of the ACA include the following types of organisation:
- organisations that exclusively provide counselling (e.g. Leeds Counselling, Womens Counselling and Therapy Service)
- organisations that have a project that delivers counselling (e.g. Leeds MIND, Archway, Women's Health Matters, St Vincent's) as part of a larger organisation
- organisations that do not deliver counselling but have an interest in developing counselling services (e.g. Leeds Bereavement Forum)
- organisations that provide a listening, rather than a counselling service, although some workers providing the support are qualified counsellors (e.g. Person to Person).
Currently the ACA meet bi-monthly and the meetings are attended by the chief officer or delegated counselling manager (or equivalent) from each organisation.
